The bushfire risk during the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires was exacerbated in parts of northeast New South Wales and southeast Queensland by drought, very dry fuels and soils, and heat.

All of these factors have been aggravated by climate change, which is expected to increase the bushfire risk and other extreme weather events such as heatwaves in the years to come.

A home can be rebuilt to mitigate at least some future bushfire risk, but it’s also important to make a home that suits the climate in which it is located. This will reduce household energy use and bills, and make your home a comfortable place to live in years to come, especially when heatwaves strike.
